Videos like this one aren’t for the faint of heart, but it really puts the safety standards of contemporary racing into perspective. At a Speedway race in Vienna, Austria in 1957, Polish rider Zbigniew Raniszewski lost his life in this gruesome incident. The two riders came together battling for position which forced Raniszewski careening into the underside of a set of stairs. The relevant question here is: Why in the world is there a set of stairs on the race track? This seems like something that could have been pulled out of a storyboard for the movie ‘Death Race.’ It’s also important to note that speedway bikes, to this very day, are not fitted with brakes. Luckily we live in a time period of motorsports where all safety precautions are taken in order to preserve the lives of the competitors.

That was really over the top. What do you think of this next video?
