This heavy recovery vehicle is based on the Oshkosh LVSR 10×10 heavy high mobility truck. The main role of this machine is recovery of damaged, immobilized, swamped, stuck, or overturned vehicles. The MMRS can recover mine resistant ambush protected vehicles, largest tactical wheeled vehicles and tracked combat vehicles with a maximum weight of about 45 000 kg. This machine is fitted with a 3-section boom, that extends to 12.5 m. It is mounted on rotating platform and rotates through 360 degrees. There are two boom recovery winches. There are two main winches. Each with 18 000 kg capacity. Winches can be also operated externally or from within the cab. There are four outriggers and one large rear spade to stabilize the vehicle during craning and winching operations. On hard surface roads the Oshkosh MMRS can tow vehicles with a maximum weight of 47 600 kg.
This heavy recovery vehicle is operated by a crew of two. The cab is fitted with an integrated armor protection and energy-absorbing seats. It provides protection from small arms fire and mine blasts. A demonstrator vehicle was fitted with a shielded machine gun mount. It can be fitted with 12.7-mm machine gun or 40-mm automatic grenade launcher for self-defense. This heavy recovery vehicle has good cross-county mobility over any terrain due to its 10×10 configuration with all-wheel drive and powerful engine. The MMRS is powered by a Caterpillar C15 15.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine, developing 600 hp. Vehicle is fitted with a central tyre inflation system. Without preparation it can ford water obstacles up to 1.5 m deep.
