Bonneville has been the place where every car enthusiast can make his car hit its maximum speed. Some chaps building a superfast Challenger II were on the Bonneville salt flats where they were trying to hit 400 mph. Yeah, you’ve read that right – 400. However, the speed is less amazing than the furious deceleration of the Challenger II when the parachutes were activated. The car accelerated so ferociously that the fire extinguisher went off and sprayed everything it had in the cockpit. During the first run the Challenger II hit 390 mph. Next day, the impressive vehicle hit 417 mph.
