James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael had some extremely tense battles at the front of the 450 MX class. This crash from the 2006 AMA Motocross Unadilla National perfectly displays Stewart’s win it or bin it attitude that would so often cost him valuable championship points. Carmichael had crashed early in the race and caught up to Stewart, but there’s no way that he was just going to settle for second place. It’s this sort of attitude that made him such a polarizing figure in the sport, but no doubt made him one of the most exciting motocross athletes of the past decade. Carmichael picked his bike up and rode to victory while Stewart was carted off the track with a concussion.
