Turbo lag is probably one of the most annoying things that could ever happened to cars with turbocharged engines. Car manufacturers are trying to build an effective solution to combat them. Some of these worked efficiently but with this new Volvo PowerPulse system, turbo lag might be killed off completely. In this system, a small electric compressor will draw clean air from the airbox , storing it at pressure in a small tank. When the driver mashes the accelerator, a valve routes the compressed air into the hot side of the turbocharger. The high-pressure air spools up the turbo, pressurizing induction air and, according to Volvo, eliminating the wait for pressurized exhaust to build up. What a clever solution indeed!
