Porsche released the first video footage of the new turbocharged 718 Cayman sports car. Four-cylinder turbo boxer engines found their place eventually in a Cayman, with Porsche adding the 718 name in the model’s designation. Entry-level models will get a turbocharged 2.0-litre flat-four unit which makes 296 horsepower and 280lb ft of torque while S models benefit from a 2.5-litre producing 345 horsepower and 310lb ft of torque. The larger engine uses a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, the technology previously used only on the 911 Turbo, and the wastegate. Porsche says that a 718 Cayman with optional PDK transmission is now capable of accelerating from zero to 62mph in 4.7 seconds, and with S models dropping the time down to 4.2 seconds for a same procedure. Top speed is rated at 170mph for the 718 Cayman and 177mph for a 718 Cayman S.
