Toyota is developing a high-precision map generation system that will use data from on-board cameras and GPS devices installed in production vehicles. Toyota claims that traditional mapping systems, such as use most drivers have limited options because they are not updated often enough, and don’t have a lot of data. The company claims that if a system relies on cameras and GPS there is a greater probability of error of a system that uses three-dimensional laser scanners positioned at each vehicle.
